needless art releases embryo e.p. #2 on 27 November, the follow up to the August 1 release, embryo e.p. #1. The person behind needless art, Gavin Moffat, believes that the evolution of the sound structures from the first e.p. to the second is a side effect of a growing ability to see the underlying patterns between the pieces of music and samples that he lays down as the foundation to each of the tracks.

Says Moffat, “I am really gratified with the end result of embryo e.p. #2 and feel like there is an excellent morphing of styles in the tracks. I experimented a good deal more with samples and found a groove on the three tracks that resulted from feeling more comfortable with the way in which I handled the work flow”.

embryo e.p. #2 begins with the sparse yet multi-layered “s is for space” a piece inspired by horror and science fiction movie soundtracks of the past 30 years.

The opening seconds of track 2, “p is for pulse”, sets the scene with a high-pitched guitar piece leading smoothly into a gentle undulating pulse that flows through the track. At 14:38 the track is not exactly made for radio play but then it’s hardly just the length of the track that would keep radio-fame from the door.

The final piece “d is for don’t know” reflects some of the insecurity that underpins the efforts of a solo artist, collaborating only with themselves and their gear. This solo collaboration, often with minimal external engagement, can result in a sometimes irritating “just don’t know if this is what I wanted” feeling.

Recap needless art’s second release embryo e.p. #2 is out on 27 November 2014 and available from iTunes, Amazon Music, Google Play, Spotify and most other online stores.
